The Plitvice Lakes National Park
is Croatia's most famous national park and is among the
most beautiful sights in Europe. The park is on the UNESCO world heritage list.
Sixteen lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster, descending
from an altitude of 2086 ft to 1650 ft over a distance of some 5 miles.
The upper lakes drain into the ones below via hundreds of cascades and waterfalls.
